Maersk says its operations in the Middle East are currently unchanged

Maersk has stated that its operations in the Middle East remain unchanged as of June 15, 2026, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. The company continues to monitor the situation closely and has implemented contingency measures to ensure the safety of its personnel, vessels, and cargo while maintaining the stability of its logistics network.

The company has temporarily suspended certain landside and ocean cargo bookings to and from key ports in the Gulf, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, with exceptions for critical foodstuff, medicine, and perishable goods. These restrictions are subject to change based on the evolving security environment and regulatory requirements.

To mitigate disruptions, Maersk has introduced alternative routing and multimodal transport solutions, including expanded landbridge and air-sea services. These options aim to maintain cargo flow to and from the region while adhering to safety protocols. Additionally, the company has imposed an Emergency Freight rate for cargo transiting through or destined for the affected areas, with fees varying by container type and route.

Maersk has also introduced an Emergency Bunker Surcharge (EBS) to address rising fuel costs and supply chain disruptions caused by the conflict. The surcharge applies to both dry and reefer containers and is subject to periodic review based on market conditions.

The company has temporarily adjusted empty container return locations to designated depots in Oman and Saudi Arabia to ensure compliance with safety and security protocols. Drop-off charges vary by container type and location.

Maersk has emphasized that its decisions are based on continuous risk assessments and security evaluations. While the company remains committed to minimizing disruptions to its customers’ supply chains, it has reserved the right to adjust operations as needed in response to further developments.
