Macquarie Asset Management and Gabia Form Strategic Partnership to Develop Hyperscale Data Center Platform in South Korea

Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4 (MAIF4), a vehicle managed by Macquarie Asset Management Group, has entered a strategic partnership with South Korean cloud services provider Gabia to develop a hyperscale data center platform in the country. The collaboration, formalized through a joint venture agreement signed on February 25, 2026, involves a planned investment of approximately 600 billion won ($420 million) over four to six years, aiming to establish infrastructure with a cumulative capacity exceeding 100MW in key domestic locations according to the partnership announcement.

The partnership's initial focus is the Ansan Data Center, which will have a 40MW capacity. The facility is designed to integrate with Gabia's existing Gwacheon Data Center, an AI infrastructure hub optimized for high-performance GPU servers. MAIF4 will oversee asset development, site acquisition, licensing, and financing, while Gabia—through its subsidiary KINX—will manage operations, design, and network construction as outlined in the joint venture agreement.

The collaboration aligns with growing demand for digital infrastructure in South Korea's expanding AI sector. By leveraging KINX's Internet Exchange (IX) capabilities, the partnership aims to enhance connectivity between domestic and international cloud service providers, supporting a hybrid cloud environment tailored to tenant needs according to the strategic plan.

Macquarie Asset Management, a global infrastructure investor with over 25 years of digital infrastructure expertise, highlighted its recent experience in large-scale data center transactions, including the 2024 sale of AirTrunk and aligned data centers. Gabia, a 27-year leader in IT infrastructure, recently completed its Gwacheon Data Center to support high-performance AI environments as reported by company sources.

"This partnership is a strategic milestone as the Korean AI market accelerates," said Kim Yong-hwan, CEO of Macquarie Asset Management Group Korea. Won Jong-hong, co-CEO of Gabia, emphasized the initiative's role in scaling the company's infrastructure capabilities to meet AI-driven demand according to leadership statements.

The collaboration underscores the increasing importance of hyperscale data centers in supporting advanced digital ecosystems, particularly in regions with rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
