Lucid Motors soars as new deal with Uber and Nuro sets up robotaxi program to take on Waymo and Tesla.

Lucid Motors' stock price surged nearly 30% after announcing a $300 million deal with Uber and Nuro to create a robotaxi program. The partnership will create a fully autonomous version of Lucid's electric SUV for exclusive use in Uber's US fleet. The companies also invested $300 million in Lucid and "hundreds of millions of dollars" in Nuro. This deal signals Lucid's commitment to expanding in the autonomous vehicle industry.

Lucid Motors' stock price surged nearly 30% following the announcement of a significant partnership with Uber and Nuro. The deal involves the creation of a fully autonomous version of Lucid's electric SUV for exclusive use in Uber's US fleet. Additionally, the companies invested $300 million in Lucid and "hundreds of millions of dollars" in Nuro.

The partnership will see Uber deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro's Driver™ technology over the next six years. The first launch is expected in a major US city next year. The vehicles will be owned and operated by Uber or its third-party fleet partners and made available to riders exclusively via the Uber platform.

Lucid's CEO, Marc Winterhoff, stated that this investment from Uber further validates Lucid's advanced vehicle architecture and technology as ideal for autonomous vehicles. Jiajun Zhu, Co-Founder and CEO at Nuro, believes the partnership will demonstrate the potential of proven AV technology at scale.

The robotaxi will leverage Lucid Gravity’s advanced technology platform and Nuro's Level 4 self-driving system, combining automotive-grade hardware and AI-powered software. This collaboration aims to deliver a fully integrated robotaxi experience, designed for comfort, safety, and scale.

Uber's platform, with operations in 70 countries and an average of 34 million trips per day, provides the necessary scale to make self-driving vehicles accessible to millions of people worldwide.
