New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde has announced her highly anticipated fourth studio album, "Virgin," set to release on June 27. The album, produced by Lorde and Jim-E Stack, features a unique cover art that showcases a transparent and raw portrayal of femininity. The album's first single, "What Was That," was released on April 24 and explores themes of grief and relationships.

The cover art for "Virgin" is a striking blue-hued pelvic X-ray with a zipper down the middle, a belt buckle in the center, and an IUD floating on the right side of the zipper. This abstract design is accompanied by the album's name, "Virgin," which Lorde has described as a reflection of her femininity and spirituality [1].

In an email to fans, Lorde shared her thoughts on the album, stating, "THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC. I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE." [1]

Lorde has also hinted that the album will be "100% written in blood," suggesting a deeply personal and emotional exploration. The track list for "Virgin" is not yet confirmed, but Apple Music lists the album as having 11 tracks, including "What Was That" [1].

The release of "Virgin" comes after Lorde's guest appearance at Charli XCX's Coachella performance and a recent fan event at Washington Square Park. The album is expected to dominate radios and headphones this summer, giving fans everything they've been wanting.
