Kraken Acquires Capitalise.ai to Enhance No-Code Trading Automation
Kraken, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has acquired Capitalise.ai, an Israel-based startup that developed a no-code trading automation platform using natural language processing [1]. The acquisition will see Kraken integrate the startup’s technology into its Kraken Pro offering, enhancing its functionality with tools that allow users to generate trading strategies using plain English commands [2]. The undisclosed acquisition price was revealed through several reports, with details emerging in late July and early August 2025 [3].
Capitalise.ai’s platform, launched in 2015, converts everyday text into executable strategies and supports execution across equities, crypto, foreign exchange markets, futures, and options. Once integrated, Kraken Pro users will be able to design, backtest, and automate trades across digital and traditional markets without coding expertise [4]. Shannon Kurtas, Kraken’s head of exchange, stated that the acquisition provides Kraken Pro clients with a new way to act on ideas in real time, aiming to make advanced strategies more accessible to a broader range of users [5].
This acquisition follows Kraken’s $1.5 billion purchase of US futures platform NinjaTrader in March, signaling a broader strategy to expand its trading infrastructure [6]. The move is part of a growing trend in the cryptocurrency industry, where exchanges and crypto-native firms are increasingly acquiring AI-driven startups to enhance their offerings [7]. For example, in January, blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis acquired Alterya, an AI-powered fraud detection startup, for approximately $150 million [8]. Later the same month, Web3 super-app xPortal bought Alphalink, a German startup specializing in AI-driven mobile interfaces for crypto [9].
On August 11, Tether and video platform RumbleRUM-- announced a joint $1.17 billion bid to acquire Germany-based Northern Data, an AI and high-performance computing infrastructure provider [10]. The same day, BitcoinBTC-- miner MARA HoldingsMARA-- struck a $168 million deal to acquire a 64% stake in French AI firm Exaion, with an option to raise its stake to 75% by 2027 [11]. These moves reflect a broader industry effort to leverage AI for trading, compliance, and infrastructure.
Kraken’s press release emphasized that the acquisition of Capitalise.ai’s technology is aimed at delivering innovative tools to its clients and reinforcing its position as a leader in the crypto space [12]. The company has historically maintained confidentiality around the financial terms of major acquisitions, and this deal is no exception [13]. The integration of Capitalise.ai’s platform is expected to expand Kraken’s competitive edge in the professional trading segment by reducing the barrier to entry for advanced trading features [14].
The acquisition has been widely covered by financial and crypto news platforms, highlighting its strategic importance in the context of Kraken’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its platform [15]. The deal underscores the increasing overlap between the crypto and AI sectors, as companies seek to adopt emerging technologies to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape [16].
