S. Korea expects AI cooperation with UAE to accelerate post-war
South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have formalized a strategic AI partnership aimed at accelerating post-war economic and technological resilience, with joint initiatives valued at approximately $20 billion. The collaboration, announced following President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit to the UAE, centers on the “Strategic AI Cooperation Framework,” a comprehensive agreement signed by Korea’s National AI Strategy Committee and the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies Council. This framework expands beyond traditional tech exchanges to include AI infrastructure, energy systems, semiconductor supply chains, robotics, and AI-enabled public services.
A flagship component is Korea’s participation in the UAE’s Stargate Project, a 30 trillion won ($20 billion) AI and energy megaproject involving large-scale data centers powered by a hybrid energy grid of nuclear, gas, and renewables. The initiative aims to stabilize AI operations for both nations while supporting the UAE’s ambition to become a Middle Eastern digital hub. Additionally, the two countries launched an “AI Port Logistics Project” to integrate physical AI and robotics into port operations at Busan and Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port, enhancing maritime efficiency.
The partnership also includes sector-specific working groups on AI infrastructure, semiconductors, and public-sector applications, with plans to deliver tangible progress by year-end. Defense and energy cooperation, including the Barakah nuclear project, further underpin the alliance. Korean officials emphasized that AI will serve as the engine for long-term economic transformation, positioning both nations to navigate post-conflict scenarios through technological self-reliance and regional stability.
