Kochi Cyber Police Arrest Two for Fake Parivahan App Scam

Kochi cyber police arrested two individuals from Varanasi for cheating people through a fake Parivahan app. The accused sent fake files via WhatsApp, making people believe they were for paying traffic fines. The police recovered information on over 2,700 vehicles from various states during the arrest operation. The suspects allegedly duped people out of ₹85,000.

Kochi Cyber Police have arrested two individuals from Varanasi for their alleged involvement in a widespread scam involving a fake Parivahan application. The accused, Atul Kumar Singh (32) and Manish Yadav (24), reportedly sent fake files via WhatsApp, convincing victims that they were for paying traffic fines. The police recovered information on over 2,700 vehicles from various states during the arrest operation.

The suspects are believed to have duped people out of ₹85,000. The fraudsters operated across several states and had duped people by sending fake APK files via WhatsApp. The Kerala Police have registered around 570 cases related to this scam. The breakthrough came after an Ernakulam resident filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) [4].

The Parivahan application, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, offers various online services related to vehicles and driving licenses. Users can check details such as traffic challans, vehicle registration, insurance, and fitness validity. However, the Kerala Police are yet to confirm whether the same gang is responsible for all other Parivahan-related fraud cases reported across the country.
