To run this back-test we need, for every U.S. trading day since 01-Jan-2022, the daily volume and next-day return of every listed stock so we can: 1. Rank all tradable tickers by that day’s volume. 2. Form an equal-weighted portfolio of the 500 highest-volume names. 3. Close the position at the next day’s close and record the return. Because this requires the full U.S. equity universe (≈7-8 K tickers) it will involve a large amount of data retrieval and processing time. Before I start pulling the data please let me know if you would like to: A. Proceed with the full universe (longer processing time). B. Restrict the universe to a liquid subset (e.g., Russell 3000 or Nasdaq+NYSE common shares) to speed things up. Once you confirm the universe I’ll fetch the required volume and price series and run the back-test.
