Jimmy Kimmel Live! Resumes Tuesday After Disney Negotiations
Disney has announced that the talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" will resume broadcasting on Tuesday, marking the end of a brief hiatus caused by controversial remarks made by the show's host regarding the shooting of Republican activist Charlie Kirk. The decision to reinstate the show comes after several days of internal discussions and negotiations between DisneyDIS-- and the show's host.
Disney, the parent company of ABC, stated in a public announcement, "Over the past few days, we have had in-depth communications with Jimmy, and based on these discussions, we have decided to resume broadcasting on Tuesday." The host is expected to address the controversy during his return to the show, having personally negotiated the resumption with Disney's CEO and the co-chair of ABC's entertainment division.
On September 17, ABC pulled the show after the 57-year-old host made comments suggesting that conservatives were attempting to gain political advantage from the Kirk shooting. Disney explained that the decision to temporarily halt production was made to avoid exacerbating tensions during a period of heightened national emotions. The company acknowledged that some of the comments made on the show were deemed inappropriate and insensitive.
Two local television station owners did not disclose whether they would air "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday. However, it was revealed that Disney had been in ongoing discussions with both parties regarding the resumption of the show. The Federal Communications Commission did not respond to requests for comment.
