Indonesian nickel refiner Harita aims to expand sales beyond China, targeting the European and Indian markets. The company, with two High Pressure Acid Leach smelters, is enhancing its production and quality, working with international traders like Glencore and Itochu to supply MHP and ferronickel for electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel.

Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company based in Indonesia, reported a remarkable 25% increase in revenue in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year [1]. This growth was driven by a surge in production output and higher sales volumes, positioning Harita Nickel to expand its sales beyond its traditional Chinese market.

With two High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) smelters and a robust production capacity, Harita Nickel is enhancing its production and quality. The company's mining operations witnessed a 29% increase in nickel ore sales volume in the first half of 2024, reaching 8.37 million metric tons [1]. This growth was fueled by the rising demand for nickel ore for smelters and refining facilities within Harita Nickel's subsidiaries.

Harita Nickel's operational achievements were further supported by the increased production of its refining facilities. PT HPL, a subsidiary of Harita Nickel, exceeded its production capacity, and the second HPAL refining facility, PT ONC, began production in the second quarter of 2024 [1].

As global demand for nickel continues to grow, particularly for electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel, Harita Nickel is exploring new markets in Europe and India. The company is collaborating with international traders such as Glencore and Itochu to supply MHP and ferronickel for these markets [1]. This strategic move aligns with the growing demand for sustainable and responsible mining practices, making Indonesia an attractive destination for global buyers.

Harita Nickel's financial performance in the first half of 2024 was robust, with gross profit reaching IDR 2.205 trillion, up 36% from the first quarter of this year [1]. This increase was also supported by the recovery of global nickel prices in the second quarter, which positively contributed to Harita Nickel's gross profit.

In conclusion, Harita Nickel's impressive financial performance and production capacity make it well-positioned to expand its sales beyond China and tap into new markets in Europe and India. With its commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices and strategic partnerships with international traders, Harita Nickel is poised for continued growth and success.
