India June local two-wheeler sales 1.56M units: SIAM
In a significant milestone for the Indian automotive industry, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reported that local two-wheeler sales in June 2025 reached 1.56 million units. This figure represents a notable increase, underscoring the growing consumer preference for two-wheelers, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) segment [1].The robust sales performance can be attributed to various factors, including the early monsoon rains that boosted demand for two-wheelers, as well as the expanding range of EV options available in the market. According to the Federation of Indian Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the share of two-wheeler EVs in total sales has increased from just under 6% in June 2024 to 7.3% in June 2025 [1].
Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, maintained its lead in the market, with a 10% year-on-year increase in sales in June 2025. The company sold a total of 5,53,963 units, with domestic sales accounting for 5,25,136 units. Meanwhile, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India saw a decline in domestic sales by 19.43%, but exports remained strong [2].
TVS Motor Company also experienced a 20% rise in two-wheeler sales, with a significant increase in domestic numbers. However, the company noted a drop in EV two-wheeler sales from 15,859 units in June 2024 to 14,400 units in June 2025 [2].
The growth in two-wheeler sales is part of a broader trend of EV adoption across various vehicle segments in India. The Indian government has committed to making 30% of new vehicle sales electric by 2030, reflecting a strategic shift towards green mobility. The automobile sector, which contributes approximately 0.6% to India's GDP, is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 11% by 2029 [3].
The PM E-DRIVE scheme, launched by the government, aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs by establishing charging infrastructure and developing an EV manufacturing ecosystem. This initiative, with a budget of US$ 1.30 billion, is expected to play a crucial role in driving the EV market forward [3].
In conclusion, the robust sales figures for two-wheelers in June 2025 reflect a positive trend in the Indian automotive market. The increasing adoption of EVs, driven by government initiatives and consumer preferences, is set to shape the future of the industry.
