Implementing Long-Term Storage and Analysis of Amazon RDS Events with Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena

Amazon RDS events, such as backup status, configuration changes, and security updates, are only retained for 14 days. To address this, an automated solution using AWS Lambda and Amazon EventBridge can capture and archive these events to Amazon S3 for analysis with Amazon Athena. This unlocks enhanced compliance capabilities, comprehensive historical analysis, improved troubleshooting, and robust audit trails. The solution uses a tag-based approach to identify which RDS clusters/instances to monitor, making it flexible and scalable.
