HAL and Safran Team Up to Produce LEAP Engine Parts

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Safran Aircraft Engines (SAE) have signed an agreement to produce forged parts for LEAP engines. The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2023 and a contract signed in February to produce Super alloy forged parts. HAL aims to support the Indian aerospace market and ensure the ramp-up of LEAP engines, while SAE is developing a complete aerospace ecosystem in India. The companies are working together to develop technology for balance parts and will produce Inconel parts at HAL's Ring Rolling facility in Bengaluru.

The agreement is part of HAL's broader strategy to support the strong growth of the Indian aerospace market and ensure the ramp-up of LEAP engines powering single-aisle civil aircraft. SAE, on the other hand, aims to develop a complete aerospace ecosystem in India, including the creation of new facilities and closer cooperation with major Indian partners like HAL [2][4].

Both companies are committed to developing technology for balance parts and are poised to commence production of Inconel parts at HAL's state-of-the-art Ring Rolling facility in Bengaluru once the critical near-net Ring Forging technology is developed [1][2][3].

Dr. D. K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director of HAL, expressed his pride in expanding the long-standing partnership with SAE and developing HAL's industrial expertise in forging processes for Inconel parts for the LEAP program [1][2][3][4].
