Geely's EX5 Electric SUV Receives Free Apple CarPlay Update via OTA

Geely's fastest-growing electric SUV, the EX5, has received a free over-the-air update to add Apple CarPlay functionality, including wired and wireless connectivity. The update is currently limited to Australia, but broader availability is expected as the EX5 reaches more markets. The company has also promised Android Auto support for early 2026.

Geely, a prominent global automaker, has recently introduced an over-the-air (OTA) update for its fastest-growing electric SUV, the EX5, adding Apple CarPlay functionality to the vehicle. This update, currently available only in Australia, offers both wired and wireless connectivity options, providing a seamless integration of Apple iPhone features into the car's infotainment system [1].

The EX5, launched in February 2025, initially did not come with Apple CarPlay. However, Geely has addressed this with the latest OTA update, which includes the highly anticipated Apple CarPlay feature. Owners of the EX5 can now enjoy phone mirroring, allowing them to bring their favorite apps from their iPhone into the car's multimedia interface [2].

In addition to Apple CarPlay, Geely has confirmed that Android Auto support will be added via an OTA update in the first quarter of 2026. This update will further enhance the EX5's infotainment capabilities, catering to a broader range of smartphone users.

The EX5 has been a popular choice in the Australian market, with over 2,300 units sold since its launch in March 2025. The vehicle is available in two grades: the entry-level Complete variant priced at $40,990 and the top-spec Inspire variant at $44,990, both before on-road costs. The EX5 is equipped with a 60.22 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 430 km and a 100 kW peak DC charging speed, which can charge the battery from 30-80% in approximately 20 minutes [2].

Geely's commitment to OTA updates is part of its strategy to enhance the customer experience and build confidence in its electric vehicles. The company has seen a significant increase in its dealership count, with 43 dealers across the country, nearly doubling its network since the EX5's launch.
