GAIL India Appoints Deepak Gupta as CMD

GAIL (India) Limited has announced the appointment of Deepak Gupta as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective March 1, 2026, following approval by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Gupta, currently serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL, succeeds Sandeep Kumar Gupta, whose tenure as CMD will conclude on the same date.

A mechanical engineer from Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University), Gupta brings over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, including leadership roles at OPaL India, Green Gas Limited, and Talcher Fertilizers Limited. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) and has spearheaded major pipeline and infrastructure projects, contributing to GAIL's operational and strategic growth.

Gupta's appointment aligns with regulatory requirements under SEBI's Listing Obligations and Disclosure Regulations, 2015, with the company disclosing the change to stock exchanges BSE and NSE. His tenure will continue until February 28, 2029, or until further orders, whichever occurs first.

The leadership transition follows GAIL's recent strategic initiatives, including a partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the Vijaipur-Bina Refinery Natural Gas Pipeline Project, underscoring the company's focus on expanding gas infrastructure and supporting India's energy transition. Gupta's experience in energy infrastructure, gas distribution, and project management is expected to bolster GAIL's efforts in natural gas transmission, distribution, and sustainable energy initiatives.

This appointment reflects the government's emphasis on continuity and expertise in public sector energy leadership, as India advances its gas-based economy and net-zero goals.
