Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall of approximately 1.5 million vehicles in the United States following reports of malfunctions related to rear view cameras. This extensive recall primarily affects models manufactured between 2015 and 2019, including popular vehicles like the Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln MKC, Mustang, Ranger, Transit, Transit Connect, Econoline, Edge, Expedition, and the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The issue stems from the rear view cameras displaying distorted or blank images on the center display screen when the vehicle is in reverse, potentially impairing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) acknowledged Ford's awareness of 18 accidents linked to the camera malfunctions, though thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Owners of recalled vehicles will receive notifications via mail by September 22, advising them to visit an authorized FordF-- or Lincoln dealership for a complimentary inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the rear view camera.

This recall serves as an expansion of a previous recall identified by NHTSA under reference number 25V270, now extended to cover a broader range of models and years. It highlights ongoing challenges faced by automakers in managing supply chains and ensuring component quality, as this particular recall relates to hardware issues stemming from unauthorized changes in the manufacturing process by one of Ford's suppliers.

Affected owners are encouraged to contact Ford customer service for further assistance and clarification regarding their vehicles. Additionally, vehicle status can be verified through the NHTSA database. As automakers continue to grapple with such technical challenges, Ford remains committed to addressing these issues proactively, ensuring the safety and trust of its customers.
