Ford Instrument Panel Recall: 355,000 Trucks Affected by Software Error Risk
Ford Motor Company is implementing a recall for over 355,000 trucks due to a potential defect in the instrument panel display, which poses an increased risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted that this recall includes certain FordF-- models: the 2025 F-150, and the 2025–2026 Super Duty series — specifically the F-550 SD, F-450 SD, F-350 SD, and F-250 SD. This recall addresses concerns that the instrument panel cluster (IPC) may go blank during start-up cycles, rendering critical driving information such as speed, fuel levels, and navigation invisible to the driver.
The root of this issue lies in a computer error within the IPC software, causing the panel to remain in a blank state post-ignition due to sleep mode complications. As of June, Ford has recorded 95 warranty claims related to this malfunction, although no accidents or injuries attributable to the issue have been reported. To remedy the situation, Ford will provide a complimentary software update to affected vehicle owners. This update is accessible either through Ford and Lincoln dealerships or via an over-the-air update, offering a more convenient customer solution.
Notification letters detailing the recall and solution will soon be dispatched to vehicle proprietors. These letters will instruct owners to proceed to a dealership for the IPC module software update or, where applicable, receive the fix over the air. The recall targets all vehicles within the specified batch produced between June 2024 and July 2025, during which the faulty software was integrated into production.
This latest recall follows a series of others throughout the year, including significant recalls involving over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to fuel injector issues. Ford's Chief Operating Officer, Kumar Galhotra, has commented on these recent recalls, underscoring the company's commitment to rapidly addressing hardware and software challenges and prioritizing consumer safety through vigorous testing measures.
