Tech giants ABBABBV--, Hitachi, Komatsu, and Sumitomo are collaborating on electrifying mining operations in Japan to reduce emissions. Hitachi and ABB have developed a fully electric 240-ton haul truck prototype, now operating at the Kansanshi copper-gold mine in Zambia. The trucks use a trolley-style charging system for continuous operation. The collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for battery minerals and decarbonize mining operations.
