Tesla is entering the autonomous vehicle testing phase in Austin, Texas, ahead of its planned launch of a commercial ride-hailing service. The company aims to operate an internal fleet optimized for a geo-fenced area using dedicated software, moving away from its previous approach of unsupervised self-driving capabilities. Despite doubts, CEO Elon Musk is committed to launching the service by the end of June. Tesla is now listed on Austin's official website as testing self-driving vehicles, though concerns remain over its full deployment without safety drivers.

BYD continues to intensify competition in the electric vehicle market with the launch of the Seal 06 EV, priced at around $15,300. This new affordable EV comes as BYD cuts prices across several models, with the entry-level Seagull EV starting at $7,800. The Seal 06 offers three trims and two battery options, providing ranges between 292 and 339 miles. This EV includes advanced features like the God’s Eye ADAS and DiPilot 100 smart cockpit system, aiming to pressure rivals to follow suit in price reductions.

Cadillac has unveiled its 2026 Optiq-V EV, boasting over 500 horsepower and upgraded sporty features. This model is Cadillac's first to include a built-in NACS port for accessing Tesla Superchargers. The Optiq-V offers 275 miles of range and includes advanced tech like GM’s Super Cruise ADAS system.

Rivian is preparing to launch its 2026 R1T Quad Motor variant, featuring a new NACS charging port and exclusive design elements. The Quad Motor model is close to entering the market, with automotive influencers showcasing early versions.

Kia has introduced its PV5 electric van, offering impressive interior space and features for various configurations, including a camper and refrigerated truck. The van, based on the E-GMP.S platform, provides ranges from 174 to 234 miles, with plans for global rollout.

Waymo faced setbacks when five of its self-driving electric cars were set ablaze during protests in Los Angeles. Despite this, Waymo continues to operate a significant fleet and plans to expand with new acquisitions, maintaining a strong presence in ride-hailing markets.
