Ethereum Proposes 16.77 Million Gas Limit for Transactions to Boost Network Resilience
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, in collaboration with developer Toni Wahrstätter, has presented EIP-7983, a proposal that introduces a dedicated gas limit of 16.77 million for individual transactions. This new limit is separate from the overall block gas limit and is intended to bolster the network's resilience against Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. By imposing a cap on transaction gas, the proposal seeks to address issues such as load imbalance, excessive state growth, and delays in block verification, which are frequently caused by high gas-consuming transactions.
EIP-7983 is also engineered to optimize the efficiency of zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) operations and facilitate parallel transaction execution. These enhancements are expected to contribute to improved scalability and overall performance of the EthereumETH-- network. As of now, the proposal is in the draft phase and is subject to further community review and technical validation before it can be implemented.
