ETH--

Ethereum's recent price performance has sparked debate among market participants about its prospects of surpassing the long-term target of $4,000. After reaching a local high of $3,400 a week ago, Ethereum has faced strong downward pressure, with the altcoin currently trading at $2,695, marking a 5.05% daily drop, 16.51% weekly decline, and 19.11% monthly decrease.

Optimistic and pessimistic views on Ethereum's future have been expressed in equal measure. Popular crypto analyst Ali Martinez has suggested a major move for ETH, positing that the prevailing conditions position Ethereum for a potential breakout above $4,000. If the altcoin manages to breach this resistance, it could pave the way for a parabolic rally, with Ethereum potentially reaching $7,400, $10,000, and even a historical high of $14,000. However, these levels are long-term targets and unlikely to occur in the short term.

Contrary to Martinez's bullish outlook, AMBCrypto's analysis paints a different picture. Ethereum is experiencing strong downward pressure, particularly in the short term. The altcoin's Sharpe Ratio (90 days) has been declining, hitting negative territory, indicating that a risk-adjusted return over the past 90 days is worse than a risk-free asset. Additionally, Ethereum is facing strong bearish sentiment, as evidenced by a negative Fund market premium, and whales have turned bearish, increasing their deposits into exchanges, causing selling pressure and pushing prices down.

In the short term, Ethereum is likely to face further losses before a potential rebound. If the current conditions persist and Ethereum breaches its critical support of $2,700, it could drop to $2,500. However, a trend reversal could see the altcoin reclaim $2,710 and attempt a run to $3,000. While the long-term rally predicted by Martinez is unlikely in the short term, Ethereum has the potential to hit these levels in the long run.
