The Ethereum Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the development of the Ethereum blockchain, announced a significant leadership change on Tuesday. Aya Miyaguchi, the foundation's executive director since 2018, will be stepping down from her position to assume the role of president at the organization.

Miyaguchi's departure comes amidst a period of leadership transition at the foundation and a decline in Ethereum's popularity among new developers. Some have even attributed the blockchain's token price lag behind other cryptocurrencies to Miyaguchi's leadership. However, Miyaguchi expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating that it would allow her to continue fostering the foundation's institutional relationships and expanding its vision and culture.

The Ethereum Foundation was established in 2014 and has played a crucial role in the development and growth of the Ethereum blockchain. Miyaguchi joined the foundation in 2018 and has served as its executive director ever since. Although the foundation has not yet announced a successor for Miyaguchi's position, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Miyaguchi's stewardship, highlighting her contributions to the successful execution of Ethereum hard forks, client interoperability workshops, and the foundation's commitment to its mission and values.
