The Sizewell C plant, currently under construction, is projected to generate enough electricity to power around 6 million homes [2]. It is set to be the second new nuclear plant built in Britain in more than two decades, following EDF's Hinkley Point C project. While the government has not specified the total cost of the Sizewell C project, EDF has indicated that it will be around 20% cheaper than Hinkley Point C [2].
The British government has already committed £17.8 billion to the project but continues to seek additional investors. US-listed investment fund Brookfield has agreed to take a stake of more than 20% in the project in exchange for funds to finance the development of the nuclear plant [1]. British utility Centrica has also expressed interest in the project but has yet to make a formal announcement [1].
The project's Final Investment Decision (FID) is expected by July 21, 2025, which will be a critical juncture for the project's viability [3]. The UK government remains a significant shareholder in the project, ensuring oversight and limiting potential delays [1].
