easyGroup, the London-based operator of budget brands including easyJet and easyHotel, has launched the easyBitcoin app, a mobile platform designed to simplify and reduce the costs of investing in bitcoinBTC-- for everyday users. The app, developed in partnership with Uphold, a regulated on-chain financial services infrastructure provider, aims to address the complexity and high transaction costs that have historically deterred mass adoption of cryptocurrency. The move comes amid growing consumer interest in digital assets, with research indicating 88% of surveyed US consumers believe bitcoin can grow their wealth over the next decade [1].

The easyBitcoin app offers a streamlined interface and multiple avenues for earning rewards on bitcoin investments. These include a 1% welcome bonus on the first $5,000 of recurring buys made each month, 2% annual rewards on bitcoin holdings for users who maintain recurring purchases for three months, and a 4.5% annual percentage yield (APY) on USD balances, with interest distributed in bitcoin [1]. Simon McLoughlin, CEO of Uphold, highlighted that the combination of FDIC-insured USD balances and bitcoin-reward features is likely to attract a significant portion of the population that is aware of bitcoin but has yet to invest [2].

The app’s launch follows easyGroup’s findings that 49% of Americans find current crypto platforms too complex and tailored toward sophisticated traders [1]. According to the company’s research, bitcoin is viewed as a top three investment choice by 39% of respondents, outperforming gold in popularity, and 57% prefer it to traditional savings accounts [1]. The research also noted that 64% of participants consider bitcoin an essential part of any investment portfolio [1]. These figures suggest a growing appetite for crypto as a mainstream financial tool, particularly as interest rates on conventional savings remain low.

However, the launch also carries risks due to the inherent volatility of bitcoin. While the app highlights historical performance—such as a $100 monthly investment growing to over $18,000 in five years—it does not clearly distinguish such results as past performance rather than projections [2]. Additionally, the app’s simplicity may downplay the complexities and risks associated with crypto investing, particularly for new users unfamiliar with market dynamics or the potential for sharp price corrections [2].

easyBitcoin’s strategy aligns with easyGroup’s long-standing mission of making services accessible and affordable to the general public. This approach has defined the company’s success in sectors like aviation and hospitality and is now being applied to the cryptocurrency market. The company’s founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, emphasized that the goal is not only to democratize access to bitcoin but also to foster financial empowerment by offering earning incentives and transparent, low-cost services [1].

The UK version of the app is expected to launch later in 2025, expanding the platform’s reach as more consumers seek alternative investment avenues. The platform will face competition from established crypto exchanges like CoinbaseCOIN-- and Kraken, as well as fintech firms such as RobinhoodHOOD-- and Revolut, which have recently expanded their offerings in the space [3]. The broader crypto landscape remains dynamic, with regulatory and market developments—such as President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto policies—continuing to influence investor sentiment and market behavior [3].
