DUK--

Duke Energy has brought a 50-MW grid battery online at its retired Allen coal plant on Lake Wylie, marking a major step in repurposing legacy fossil fuel infrastructure for grid-scale storage. The project cost approximately $100 million and will be joined by a 167-MW battery installation. Both projects qualify for federal investment tax credits, which will directly reduce costs for customers. Utility-scale battery storage is becoming a critical reliability tool as electricity demand accelerates and renewable generation expands.
