DHL Group extends contract of CEO Tobias Meyer
DHL Group Leadership Transition and Strategic Continuity
The Deutsche Post DHL Group has confirmed its leadership transition plans, with Tobias Meyer set to assume the role of Group CEO in May 2023, following Frank Appel’s extended tenure. Appel, who has led the company since 2009, will remain in office until the Annual General Meeting in 2023, ensuring a structured handover. Meyer, currently CEO of Post & Parcel Germany, has been a member of the Management Board since 2019 and brings extensive experience across operations, corporate development, and IT leadership within the group.
As part of the transition, Meyer will take responsibility for the Corporate Function Global Business Services in July 2022 before fully assuming the Group CEO role. Nikola Hagleitner, previously Chief Sales Officer at Post & Parcel Germany, will succeed Meyer as CEO of Post & Parcel Germany effective July 1, 2022. Hagleitner’s career spans 18 years with the company, including roles across operations, sales, and business development.
Dr. Nikolaus von Bomhard, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, emphasized Meyer’s role in continuing the group’s strategic focus on digitalization, sustainability, and global trade. Appel praised Meyer’s leadership in Post & Parcel Germany’s turnaround, calling him an “ideal choice” to succeed him.
The Supervisory Board also extended the contract of Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, until 2027, underscoring stability in key leadership roles. These changes reflect the group’s commitment to maintaining operational momentum amid evolving market dynamics, including the growth of e-commerce and sustainability initiatives.
With Meyer’s appointment, the DHL Group aims to build on its position as a global logistics leader, leveraging its strategic framework to address megatrends shaping the industry. The transition highlights the company’s focus on internal succession and long-term governance, aligning with its Strategy 2025 objectives.
