Deutsche Bank has appointed Joe Lai as chairman of origination and advisory for Asia in its investment bank, according to an internal memo. Lai will join the bank in the coming months and will be based in Hong Kong. In his role, he will be responsible for enhancing the bank's client strategy and advisory capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Lai previously served as co-head of Asia-Pacific investment banking and capital markets at Credit Suisse, a position he held until the Swiss bank's acquisition by UBS Group AG. He was also co-head of China investment banking at Credit Suisse since 2018. Deutsche Bank has been actively recruiting senior bankers from Credit Suisse in the wake of the acquisition, with several high-profile hires already joining the firm.

The move is part of Deutsche Bank's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in key markets and expand its investment banking capabilities. The bank has also made several leadership changes within its global operations, including the appointment of Stefan Hoops to the Group Management Board and Marie-Jeanne Deverdun as Chief Technology, Data and Innovation Officer. These changes reflect the bank's ongoing efforts to align its leadership structure with its strategic goals.
