A confidential report suggests that the Darwin LNG tank leaked methane for 18 years, emitting the equivalent of 8,300 new cars per year. The tank's operator, ConocoPhillips, initially downplayed the issue, stating that the emissions were "minute." Regulators were only informed of the leak in 2020, but have not required the tank to be repaired or replaced. The tank is set to be filled again as part of the Barossa project, despite concerns from critics about the project's greenhouse gas emissions.
