The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a significant surge in the number of listed tokens, with CoinMarketCap nearing the milestone of 11 million different digital assets. This rapid increase, driven primarily by the proliferation of Meme coins launched on the Solana blockchain, has raised concerns among traders and industry analysts.

Some analysts believe that the Meme coin craze has diverted attention away from tech clone coins, eliminating the speculative premium that this sector once enjoyed. The flood of new tokens has raised concerns about the corrosive effect of hundreds of millions of new tokens vying for limited attention in an already saturated market.

Market analyst Ali Martinez recently predicted that the number of tokens competing for scarce capital and investor attention will hinder the altcoin season. Martinez estimates that there are over 36 million altcoins currently in existence, compared to less than 3,000 altcoins during the 2018 cycle period and less than 500 altcoins during the 2013-2014 period, highlighting the massive change the market has undergone due to such a vast supply.
