Credent Wealth Management, a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) headquartered in Indiana, has announced the acquisition of TFG Advisors, a financial advisory firm based in Auburn Hills and Ann Arbor, Michigan. The acquisition marks Credent's continued expansion into the state and brings its total assets under management (AUM) close to $4 billion [1].The deal, which includes the acquisition of TFG's approximately $420 million in AUM, will establish Credent's second and third offices in Michigan. The seven-member team at TFG, led by principals George Barnhart, Terry Hirsch, and Paul Reile, will join Credent and continue operating from their current offices in Auburn Hills and Ann Arbor. The team will serve Credent's clients, who will benefit from access to the expanded capabilities of Credent's Private Wealth team, including advanced financial planning, direct access to a broader investment approach, and proprietary portfolio strategies [1].
Credent's CEO, David Hefty, highlighted the alignment between Credent's client-first philosophy and TFG's values, stating, "From the very beginning of our conversations, it was clear that the TFG Advisors team shared Credent's client-first philosophy and deep commitment to financial planning" [1]. The acquisition supports Credent's long-term succession plans and will ensure continuity for TFG's clients and team while opening the door to enhanced solutions and long-term growth [1].
TFG's Managing Partner and Director of Operations & Marketing, George Barnhart, emphasized the cultural fit between TFG and Credent, noting that "we chose Credent because they're the right cultural fit; they share our Midwest roots, client-first mindset, and our commitment to doing the right thing by both our clients and our people" [1]. The acquisition is the eighth partnership for Credent in the last three years, supporting the firm's intentional growth strategy focused on building a "forever firm" grounded in client service, planning and investment excellence, and operational strength [1].
The expansion into eastern Michigan builds on Credent's existing office in Portage and underscores the firm's commitment to growing its Midwest presence while remaining grounded in its culture and values.
