U consumer finance - Valu and EBRD expand consumer access to energy-efficient household solutions in Egypt
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a €10.7 million loan to U Consumer Finance, operating under the brand Valu, to expand access to energy-efficient household solutions in Egypt. This initiative aims to support Egypt’s green transition by enabling households to finance energy-efficient appliances, solar solutions, and other climate-friendly technologies through Valu’s digital platform and extensive merchant network.
The EBRD loan includes a technical cooperation package of €74,900 to assist Valu in developing dedicated green finance products and strengthening its capacity to identify and track eligible investments. The project is expected to stimulate demand for energy-efficient and renewable technologies, contributing to the development of a more sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient economy in Egypt.
Valu, Egypt’s leading consumer fintech platform, offers flexible financing options across more than 8,500 merchants and has expanded into investment products, B2B solutions, and card-based payments. The partnership with the EBRD underscores confidence in Valu’s ability to scale accessible green finance across the country.
Egypt is a founding member of the EBRD, and since 2012, the bank has invested over €14.6 billion in 227 projects in the country. This collaboration marks EBRD’s first consumer finance partnership in Egypt and the broader Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region.
