Complaint Filed Against Virat Kohli Over Bengaluru Stampede

A complaint has been filed against cricketer Virat Kohli at the Cubbon Park Police Station in connection with the June 4 stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that killed 11 people and injured dozens. The complainant, social activist HM Venkatesh, accused Kohli of promoting gambling through IPL, which he claims incited the massive crowd that led to the tragedy.

The complaint follows the arrests of four officials from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and event management firm DNA Entertainment Private Limited, who were remanded to 14-day judicial custody [2].

Virat Kohli has expressed his grief over the incident, stating, "At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted," in a post on X. RCB has also issued a statement expressing their condolences and stating that they are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents. The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased, and the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has instructed the DGP and IGP of the state to immediately arrest the representatives of RCB and DNA event managers and KSCA for the stampede [3].

The incident has sparked a series of investigations and punitive actions. The Karnataka government has sacked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s political secretary K Govindaraj and transferred the head of Intelligence department Hemant Nimbalkar [4].
