Citigroup has appointed former JPMorgan banker Achintya Mangla to a newly created senior role, a move indicating CEO Jane Fraser's key lieutenant is looking to extend his influence within the upper echelons of the Wall Street bank.
Mangla, previously the Global Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM) at JPMorgan, will join Citigroup on Wednesday as the head of investment banking financing, according to an internal memo sent by Citigroup Banking Head Vis Raghavan.
In his new role, Mangla will oversee Citigroup's global debt and equity capital markets, as well as syndicate and private capital markets.
Mangla's transition to Citigroup marks a reunion with his former boss, Raghavan, who joined Citi this summer to oversee one of the bank's newly established five divisions — banking.
Mangla spent over 22 years at JPMorgan, departing in April this year. In his new position at Citigroup, Mangla will be reporting to Global Head of Debt Capital Markets Rich Zogheb, and Global ECM Co-Heads Doug Adams and James Fleming.
The appointment is part of a broader effort by Citigroup to strengthen its leadership team and enhance its market position, reaffirming the bank's commitment to attracting top industry talent.
