Liddell, 67, brings over four decades of corporate experience to the CFS board. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Microsoft and International Paper Co., and as Vice Chairman and CFO at General Motors, overseeing the company's $23 billion public offering in 2010, the largest in history at the time. In the public sector, he held various roles including Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Chief of Staff during the first Trump administration.
Liddell's appointment underscores CFS's commitment to leveraging diverse expertise to drive its growth and innovation. He joins a board that includes Bob Mumgaard, the company's CEO and co-founder, and other distinguished leaders from the technology, finance, and energy sectors.
"With his career spanning the public, private, and philanthropic sectors, Chris Liddell will be an invaluable addition to our board," said Mumgaard. "Fusion is poised to become a vital part of the global energy sector, and we look forward to having Chris's expertise as we lead the commercialization of this technology."
Liddell is a dual citizen of the United States and New Zealand, holding a bachelor of engineering degree from the University of Auckland and a master of philosophy degree from the University of Oxford. He is the author of "Year Zero," a book outlining a strategic approach to planning and building a more effective White House.
CFS, founded in 2018, has raised over $2 billion in capital and is working on its marquee fusion project, SPARC, which aims to generate net energy. Liddell expressed his enthusiasm about CFS's potential, stating, "I am a great believer in fusion and am excited to be a part of CFS as the company leads the commercialization of this vital power source in the next few years."
