China-Linked Hackers Target Southeast Asia Diplomats with Malware Disguised as Software Updates

Chinese hackers have targeted Southeast Asian diplomats in a cyber-espionage campaign, according to Google. The attacks, using social engineering and malware disguised as software updates, are attributed to the China-linked UNC6384 group. Google has high confidence that the attacker is China-aligned. The hackers breached Wi-Fi networks and duped diplomats into downloading malware, allowing them to access sensitive documents. The campaign adds to tension between the US and China along cybersecurity lines.
