Carlyle Group's unit, Carlyle AlpInvest, has successfully raised $20 billion for its global private equity secondaries strategy. The AlpInvest Secondaries Fund VIII, which reached its $15 billion hard cap, focuses on acquiring exposure to existing private equity assets. The fund is designed to provide investors with a way to gain access to the private equity market without having to invest directly in private equity funds.

The total amount raised includes $3.2 billion in co-investment commitments and $2 billion for private wealth vehicles investing alongside the fund. Over 325 new and existing investors have committed capital to the fund. The secondary market for private equity funds involves buying and selling of pre-existing investor commitments to private equity and other alternative investment funds or the underlying private equity assets.

The secondary market has gained significant traction in recent years, offering investors an alternative way to participate in the private equity market. Carlyle AlpInvest's latest fund aims to capitalize on this trend by providing a platform for investors to acquire existing commitments and assets in a more efficient and flexible manner.

Carlyle Group, Inc. (CG) has a strong track record in the private equity industry, and its latest fundraise further underscores its commitment to the secondary market. The company's ability to attract a diverse range of investors, including both new and existing ones, highlights the growing interest in the secondary market.
