Calgary recycling company ECCO Recycling and Energy Corp. was recently convicted of breaching bylaws and found to have a "continuous disregard" for local laws. A court injunction requires ECCO to stop storing dry waste and remove it from the recycling site. The site, where a fire has been burning for over a week, is located in southeast Calgary. ECCO was fined the maximum amount of $30,000 in December 2025 for violating the city's Land Use Bylaw, but the fine has not been paid. The city is pursuing a separate legal action related to the landfill site.
