BSV Hackathon Offers $50,000 Prize Pool, Babbage Tools Mandatory
Ty Everett recently conducted a livestream that provided developers with a comprehensive overview of Babbage’s new software stack, which is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming BSVBSV-- Hackathon. Scheduled for April 5, 2025, the two-day event will take place in Austin, Texas, offering participants the chance to compete for a prize pool exceeding $50,000, with the majority of the prizes sponsored by Babbage. Everett highlighted the potential of BSV’s blockchain ecosystem and how Babbage’s new software stack can drive innovation for developers in unprecedented ways.
One of the key requirements for participants is the mandatory use of at least one of Babbage’s development tools, with the recommendation to utilize multiple components of the stack. These tools are essential for creating secure and functional blockchain applications. Everett stressed the importance of familiarizing oneself with these tools before the event to maximize contributions and innovation.
Everett’s livestream included an in-depth walkthrough of Babbage’s Metanet Desktop repository, a wallet and development environment that serves as the foundation for working with BSV applications. This repository supports interaction with other apps, management of permissions and trust, and integration of identity verification features. Everett also provided a live demonstration of how to clone and explore the repository’s codebase using a terminal.
A standout feature of the new stack is the Meter App, which unifies front-end and back-end functions, interacts with sCrypt smart contracts, and manages on-chain data effectively. Everett demonstrated the app’s capabilities using a to-do application example, showcasing how it safely interoperates with a user’s BSV wallet and encrypts user information for secure blockchain interactions.
One of the more intriguing segments of Everett’s stream was the demonstration of micropayments. He illustrated how developers can integrate identity verification and certificates, facilitate repeat micropayments through wallet transactions, and optimize server-side automation for blockchain applications. Although the example of monetizing weather data from Mars was hypothetical, it effectively demonstrated the integration of smart contracts and payment automation.
Ty Everett’s livestream is a valuable resource for developers planning to attend the BSV Hackathon. By exploring Babbage’s new tech stack and understanding how to work with its tools, attendees can enhance their chances of success and contribute to the future of blockchain technology. Whether participants are attending for exposure, networking, or the prize money, this event is poised to be a significant milestone in the blockchain community.
