Brazilian Judge Orders Government to Include JBS Subsidiary on "Dirty List" of Slave Labor Employers

A Brazilian federal labor judge has ordered the government to include a poultry unit of meatpacker JBS in the "dirty list" of employers responsible for subjecting workers to conditions similar to slavery. The case stems from a federal raid last year that found 10 people working in conditions similar to slavery for a contractor hired by JBS Aves in Rio Grande do Sul state. JBS suspended the contractor, terminated the contract, and blocked the company upon learning of the allegations. The inclusion on the list would prevent the company from obtaining certain types of loans from Brazilian banks for two years.
