Brazil corn yield 6,717 kg/ha, prior 6,146 kg/ha: CONAB

Brazil’s National Supply Company (CONAB) reported a revised corn yield of 6,717 kg/ha for the 2025/26 crop cycle, up from 6,146 kg/ha previously, reflecting improved conditions in key growing regions as harvest progresses. Total corn production was adjusted downward by 0.3% to 138.448 million tons, primarily due to reduced second-crop acreage estimates. The second crop, critical to Brazil’s annual output, is now projected at 109.263 million tons, a 1.1% decline from January, while the first crop rose 3.1% to 26.7 million tons, and the third crop fell 1% to 2.485 million tons according to CONAB data. Harvest and planting activities for the first and second crops are each approximately 20% complete, indicating early-stage operations.

CONAB highlighted robust domestic demand for corn and soybeans, alongside strong export prospects, which are expected to intensify competition with U.S. agricultural exports in global markets. The agency also revised downward its forecasts for cotton and rice production, signaling potential shifts in Brazil’s agricultural supply dynamics.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is scheduled to release updated Brazil crop projections on March 10, 2026, which may influence market interpretations of supply balances. While CONAB’s yield increase suggests improved productivity, the overall production reduction underscores the challenges of reconciling acreage adjustments with output expectations. These developments remain critical for global traders navigating Brazil’s role as a key supplier in the grains market.
