Borsa Istanbul suspends Yesil Yatirim, Yesil Yapi trading

Borsa Istanbul temporarily suspended trading in all market segments following the activation of the index-based circuit breaker system on March 6, 2026. The BIST 100 index opened the day with a 6.7% decline, triggering the mechanism and halting transactions in the stock, futures and options, and debt securities markets. Trading was paused at 09:55:22 and resumed at 10:20 with a single-price collection, followed by standard buy-sell order processing at 10:30 according to reports. This follows a broader sell-off trend, with the BIST 100 closing at 10,473.47 points on March 1, down 3.01% according to data.

To stabilize markets, the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye (SPK) imposed a temporary ban on short selling in Borsa Istanbul's equity market from March 2 to March 6. The measure aims to reduce volatility amid heightened geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainties. The SPK also allowed brokerage firms to temporarily lower the minimum equity protection ratio for margin trading from 35% to 20% during the same period. Additionally, Borsa Istanbul reduced the Order-to-Trade Ratio in the equity market from 5:1 to 3:1 to limit excessive speculative activity.

The Central Bank of Türkiye announced parallel measures, including suspending one-week repo auctions and initiating Turkish Lira-settled foreign exchange forward transactions to stabilize liquidity and curb exchange rate volatility according to reports. These coordinated actions reflect efforts to restore market confidence amid overlapping domestic and international risks.
