Boeing Plant 2, a Seattle facility that produced over 7,000 B-17 Flying Fortresses and early BoeingBA-- 737s, has been demolished and its materials reused. The plant, built in 1936, was roofed with fake suburban houses and trees to protect it from potential Japanese air raids during WWII. Women replaced men who were sent overseas, filling the roles of "Rosie the Riveters." The facility produced an average of 12 B-17s per day at its peak.
