The Blockchain Group, a leading Bitcoin Treasury Company in Europe, backed by Adam Back, announced on Wednesday that it had acquired 580 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $50 million at current market prices. This acquisition marks the company's largest Bitcoin purchase to date, underscoring its commitment to a Bitcoin-centric investment strategy.

The company's Bitcoin Treasury strategy was launched on November 5, 2024, making it the first European company to adopt such a strategy. The Blockchain Group's journey in accumulating Bitcoin began with a purchase of 15 Bitcoin in November 2024, followed by an additional 25 Bitcoin in December. The latest acquisition of 580 Bitcoin brings the company's total holdings to 620 BTC, valued at around $54 million. The funds for this purchase were sourced from a convertible bond issue announced on March 6.

To track the performance of its Bitcoin Treasury strategy, The Blockchain Group has introduced three new key performance indicators: “BTC Yield,” “BTC Gain,” and “BTC € Gain.” Since the beginning of the year, the group has achieved a BTC Yield of 709.8% and a BTC Gain of 283.9 BTC, demonstrating the effectiveness of its strategy.

Founded in 2008, The Blockchain Group specializes in data intelligence, AI, and decentralized technology development and consulting services. The company's pivot to Bitcoin is driven by a strategy inspired by Strategy, the world’s largest Bitcoin treasury firm. The goal is to maximize the number of Bitcoin per share over time by accumulating Bitcoin through excess cash flow and capital raises. This approach aims to enhance long-term shareholder value through any capital-raising activity.

In an interview, Alexandre Laizet, Deputy CEO and Director of Bitcoin Strategy at The Blockchain Group, highlighted that Bitcoin offers a unique opportunity to engage in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) every two to three months. This allows the company to acquire an asset that delivers approximately 60% annualized growth over four years, without the execution risks associated with traditional M&A. The Blockchain Group's strategy reflects a growing trend among institutional investors to embrace cryptocurrencies as a viable asset class, recognizing their potential to drive significant returns.
