Spot BitcoinBTC-- ETFs Witness $3.55B Outflows in November as Institutional Appetite Wanes

U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded a record $3.55 billion in outflows during November 2025, marking one of the worst months in the products' history. The exodus was led by BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin TrustIBIT-- (IBIT), which saw $2.47 billion in redemptions - accounting for 63% of total withdrawals - amid a broader sell-off in crypto markets. The outflows accelerated as Bitcoin's price slid below $90,000, erasing gains from its October peak of $126,000 and triggering stop-loss orders and leveraged position liquidations.

The selling pressure intensified in late November, with single-day outflows peaking at $903 million on Nov. 14, contrasting with a brief $75.4 million inflow on Nov. 19. BlackRock's IBITIBIT-- alone logged a record $523 million outflow on Nov. 12 - the largest since its January 2024 launch - while Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund saw $1.09 billion in redemptions for the month. The selloff mirrored a broader trend across crypto exchange-traded products, with U.S.-based ETPs accounting for 97% of a $2 billion weekly outflow, the highest since February.

Analysts attribute the outflows to a combination of bearish technical signals, fading hopes for Federal Reserve rate cuts, and shifting institutional positioning. Bitcoin's fourth "death cross" in the cycle - where short-term momentum indicators fell below long-term trends - heightened bearish sentiment. Meanwhile, the probability of a December rate cut dropped to 46% from 93.7% in October, undermining risk-on assets. Smart money traders added $5.7 million in short positions over 24 hours, signaling expectations of further downside.

The impact extended beyond Bitcoin ETFs. Ethereum-based ETPs posted $74.2 million in outflows, while SolanaSOL-- ETFs attracted $26.2 million in inflows. Stablecoin supply also declined, with algorithmic token USDEUSDe-- losing nearly half its value post-October liquidations. Corporate treasury activity linked to digital asset holdings weakened, compounding concerns about institutional appetite.

Looking ahead, the market remains divided. While some analysts anticipate further declines - predicting a 50% drop before a potential rebound - others highlight that ETFs could stabilize if Bitcoin finds support near $89,000. BlackRock's continued dominance in ETF flows, despite volatility, underscores its role as the primary gateway for institutional Bitcoin exposure.
