Sora Ventures, a venture capital firm based in Taipei, has announced the launch of Asia’s first $1 billion BitcoinBTC-- treasury fund, marking a significant development in the region’s institutional adoption of cryptocurrency. The fund, unveiled during Taipei Blockchain Week in September 2025, aims to acquire $1 billion worth of Bitcoin within six months and is currently backed by a $200 million capital commitment from institutional partners across the region [1]. The initiative seeks to replicate and scale Bitcoin-first treasury models that have already taken root in Asia through firms such as Japan’s Metaplanet, Hong Kong’s Moon Inc., Thailand’s DV8, and South Korea’s BitPlanet [3].

Unlike prior efforts in the region, where companies individually accumulated Bitcoin on their balance sheets, Sora Ventures is creating a centralized institutional vehicle to consolidate and streamline these activities. This approach, according to Jason Fang, founder and managing partner of Sora Ventures, aims to address the fragmented nature of Bitcoin treasury adoption in Asia and align the region with global trends led by institutions in the U.S. and Europe [1]. Fang emphasized that this is the first time institutional capital has coalesced at this scale across Asia to support a unified Bitcoin treasury strategy.

The fund is structured as a centralized institutional capital pool, designed to support existing Bitcoin treasury firms while enabling the creation of new ones. By pooling resources, the fund aims to reduce barriers for companies looking to adopt Bitcoin treasuries, particularly in terms of regulatory strategy, tax planning, and treasury design. According to Sora Ventures, this collaborative model can strengthen Bitcoin’s role as a reserve asset in global markets [4]. The firm has previously supported companies such as Metaplanet, which saw its stock rise over 4,800% in the 12 months following its initial Bitcoin allocation. Metaplanet now holds 20,000 BTC, valued at approximately $2.2 billion, making it the largest corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia [4].

Sora Ventures has a growing track record in Bitcoin treasury investments. In 2024, it supported Metaplanet’s initial allocation of ¥1 billion ($6.56 million) to Bitcoin. In 2025, the firm expanded its regional footprint by acquiring Moon Inc. in Hong Kong, DV8 in Thailand, and partnering with BitPlanet in South Korea. These acquisitions were designed to replicate and scale the successful Metaplanet model across different Asian markets. The newly launched $1 billion fund represents a formalization of these efforts, offering a framework to attract additional institutional partners and coordinate treasury strategies across markets [5].

The announcement aligns with broader trends in institutional Bitcoin adoption. According to data from BitcoinTreasuries, publicly traded companies now control over 1 million BTC globally, with the U.S. leading the charge. However, with Sora Ventures’ initiative, Asia is positioning itself as a serious contender in institutional Bitcoin investment. Luke Liu, a partner at Sora Ventures, noted that this is the first time Asia has seen a commitment of this magnitude to build a network of Bitcoin treasury firms [2]. As the fund progresses toward its $1 billion target, it could serve as a catalyst for further institutional interest in Bitcoin across Asia and beyond.
