Under these agreements, BEML will indigenously develop and produce the Unit Maintenance Vehicle (UMV) and Unit Repair Vehicle (URV) for the MBT Arjun, as well as the Full Trailer for the 70T Tank Transporter equipped with an Advanced Hydraulic Suspension System. The UMV will perform first-line maintenance and light repairs in the field, ensuring tanks remain mission-ready. The URV will offer advanced capabilities for second-line maintenance and field repairs, extending the mobility and effectiveness of the MBT Arjun fleet. The 70T Tank Transporter Trailer, paired with BEML's High Mobility Vehicle (HMV) 8x8 Prime Mover, is designed to transport heavy combat vehicles across all types of terrain, with superior manoeuvrability provided by its modular hydraulic suspension and steerable axles.
The agreements were formally handed over by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, to Shri Sanjay Som, Director (Mining & Construction), BEML Ltd., during a ceremony at VRDE, Ahmednagar. The event was graced by senior DRDO scientists and industry leaders. This strategic collaboration underscores BEML's role as a trusted partner in building a modern, self-reliant defence industrial base for India.
