"Beamable Raises $13.5M to Decentralize Gaming, Challenging Hyperscalers"
Beamable, a leading decentralized gaming infrastructure provider, has raised $13.5 million in Series A funding, led by BITKRAFT Ventures. The funding round also saw participation from Arca, Advancit Capital, 2Punks, P2 Ventures, Solana Foundation, Scytale Digital, defy.vc, Grand banks Capital, and Permit Ventures.
Jon Radoff, CEO and Co-Founder of Beamable Inc, expressed his enthusiasm about the funding, stating, "By leveraging the proven success of our existing platform and integrating decentralized principles, we’re unlocking a new era of scalability and inclusivity for developers." The funds will be used to expand the Beamable Network, which recently launched the Beamable Foundation to transform the gaming industry via open-source technology and Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN).
Beamable aims to reduce the dominance of centralized gaming centers dominated by hyperscalers. By building robust and decentralized back-end gaming infrastructure, the company seeks to improve live gaming services. With a history of developing games like "Game of Thrones Ascent" and "Star Trek Timelines," Beamable now focuses on providing backend infrastructure for game developers. The company plans to use DePIN to contribute computing power, storage, and network resources from participants, enabling developers to create their own software modules and services on the network. This will also facilitate open-source development and the creation of a tokenized protocol, providing a robust alternative to traditional cloud providers.
The gaming industry is projected to generate $200 billion in revenue by 2025, and Beamable is poised to become one of the top 10 DePIN projects by launch. The company's mission is to deliver scalable, cost-effective, and resilient game tools, workflows, and infrastructure to the gaming industry.
Centralized gaming faces challenges such as high infrastructure costs, server crashes due to overloads, privacy and data control issues, and the risk of censorship and platform control. DePIN networks can distribute game server workloads across multiple nodes, reducing the possibility of server crashes and downtime. Blockchain-based identity systems allow gamers to access gaming services without exposing personal information and give players a chance to earn direct rewards in crypto without third-party cuts. The sense of ownership given to players and developers using decentralized infrastructure will accelerate the transformation of the gaming industry.
