Banks, Auto, and IT Stocks Lead Indian Benchmark Indices to Sharp Gains on Tuesday

Indian benchmark indices surged 1.78% and 1.89% on Tuesday, with HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, HPCL, InterGlobe Aviation, and Coal India being the top movers. HDFC Bank closed 3% higher, while Larsen & Toubro gained 5.2% after US President Donald Trump said Iran had held "very good and productive conversations" aimed at a complete resolution of hostilities. HPCL and BPCL also closed with gains of over 4%, while InterGlobe Aviation surged 5.5%. Coal India, however, ended 3% lower after its board received in-principle approval to divest stakes in two subsidiaries. Fino Payments Bank tanked 20% following reports of a possible probe by the Enforcement Directorate.
