BAE Systems confident on winning further orders for Typhoon military jets, air sector managing director says

BAE Systems (LON:BAES) has been awarded a significant contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for systems engineering and evaluation work. The $172.4 million cost-plus-fixed-fee task order, known as Systems Analysis Worldwide VIII, will focus on developing, enhancing, modifying, integrating, and transitioning capabilities that address critical multi-domain needs across air, space, and cyber sectors [1].

The Maryland-based company will perform the work in Rockville and expects to complete the project by September 13, 2030. The contract was awarded through a competitive acquisition process, with only one offer received. The DoD allocated $389,438 in fiscal 2025 research, development, test, and evaluation funds, along with $8,597,667 in fiscal 2025 operation and maintenance funds, and an additional $325,000 in fiscal 2025 funds [1].

The Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York, is serving as the contracting activity for this project, which has been assigned the contract number FA8750-25-F-B021. This contract is part of BAE Systems' broader focus on the air sector, where the company has a long and proud heritage in the development, manufacture, upgrade, and support of world-leading combat and fast jet trainer aircraft [3].

This latest contract is a significant milestone for BAE Systems, reflecting the company's expertise and capabilities in the defense sector. The company has been actively involved in various projects and partnerships, including the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and the development of the Eurofighter Typhoon, which has continually evolved since its inception [3]. The GCAP programme supports over 3,500 jobs and 1,000 apprenticeships in the UK, demonstrating the company's commitment to innovation and job creation [3].

As BAE Systems continues to expand its capabilities in the air sector, this contract signals confidence in the company's ability to deliver on complex defense projects. The company's expertise in developing and integrating advanced technologies, such as the ECRS Mk2 for the Eurofighter Typhoon, positions it well to meet the evolving needs of the defense industry [3].
