APUS Donates 7,500 Books, Journals, and Archives to Local Non-Profits, Military Libraries.

American Public University System (APUS) is donating 7,500 books, journals, artifacts, and archival collections to several non-profit organizations and military-affiliated libraries. The donations are supported by APUS's Richard G. Trefry Library, which closed after the building's sale to Jefferson County Commissioners. Recipients include Charles Town Public Library, Harpers Ferry Public Library, and the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. APUS's charitable efforts demonstrate its commitment to the local community and U.S. military.

American Public University System (APUS) has announced a significant donation of approximately 7,500 books, journals, artifacts, and archival collections to various non-profit organizations and military-affiliated libraries. The donation, supported by APUS's Richard G. Trefry Library, follows the closure of the physical library after its sale to Jefferson County Commissioners. The materials, including those from the Richard G. Trefry Archives, will be distributed among six recipients, demonstrating APUS's commitment to preserving local and military history.

The donation includes historical records, novels, artifacts, and archival materials. Recipients include Charles Town Public Library, Harpers Ferry Public Library, Jefferson County Historical Society, Jefferson County Museum, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library at the Command & General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, APUS Provost, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to preserve and share these collections. Jacquelyn Trefry, wife of the late U.S. Army Lieutenant General Richard G. Trefry, shared her appreciation for the University's care in stewarding her husband's papers and research. Local organizations, such as the Jefferson County Historical Society and Museum, also expressed their gratitude for the donation, noting the significance of the materials to their communities.

APUS, which includes American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU), has been recognized for its innovative approach to online learning and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The donation aligns with APUS's mission to deliver high-quality, workforce-relevant higher education, supporting its commitment to both local communities and the U.S. military.
